Todd Haas Coaches Coronado High School Mock Trial Team
San Diego Partner Todd Haas served as attorney coach for the Coronado High School Mock Trial Team at a demonstration/practice session before members of the Coronado Optimist Club. The students presented closing arguments in a case involving allege gross/criminal misuse of social media which resulted in an alleged criminal threat and "SWAT" incident resulting in bodily injury. Both sides received a standing ovation from the enthusiastic crowd.
The exercise was in preparation for the San Diego County Mock Trial Competition, where a team of 18 high school students will represent Coronado High School in an actual courtroom before a real judge. More than 20 schools will participate in the competition, to be held in February at the Downtown San Diego Hall of Justice. Each student will be assigned typical courtroom roles, including witnesses, bailiffs, defense attorneys, and prosecutors. The Mock Trial Team experience enables students to develop their oral advocacy and presentation skills and learn about the legal process.
Todd works with Selman Breitman's Insurance, Commercial Litigation, General Liability, and Trucking and Transportation practice groups. His work as "proud attorney coach" for Coronado High School's Mock Trial Team is just one of his many community, church, and charitable activities.
